Darko Popović
Biography
Darko Popović took the post of Banca Intesa Executive Board President, in 2022 after spending 14 years as a member of the Executive Board. He started his career at the National Bank of Serbia as bank supervisor, where he worked on supervision and due diligence of 17 banks during the reconstruction of the financial sector. Darko Popović spent his first five years at Banca Intesa as manager in the Risk Management Department, and after that he became Head of this Department. Together with his colleagues at the Association of Serbian Banks, he formed the Risk Management Committee and was elected Committee Chairman in 2007. He started working directly with clients in 2008, when he became Head of the Corporate Division, while he took the position of Head of the Retail Division in 2013 as part of the Bank’s strategy to further strengthen its position in the retail segment. He was president of Board of Directors of Intesa Leasing, the biggest leasing company in Serbia, from 2013 to 2022. Now he is a member of the Supervisory Board of Management Company of open-ended investment funds subject to public offering and alternative investment funds Intesa Invest a.d. Beograd and Deputy President of the Board of Directors of Intesa Foundation philantropic organization, while also serving as president of the Association of Financial Institutions and the Banking Committee of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia, Deputy Chairman of the Association of Serbian Banks Board of Directors and First Vice President of AmCham Serbia Board of Governors.
Darko Popović graduated from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Belgrade. Among the numerous professional education courses he attended, the most prominent are the ones on the topic of leadership at Harvard Business School, Stanford Graduate School of Business and London Business School. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Belgrade Faculty of Economics Alumni Club. He was the president of the Board of Directors of Intesa Leasing d.o.o. Beograd, as well as a member of the Board of Directors of the Serbian Association of Managers.
